Vancouver Centre I/II Live Wall

Developing an automated and secure media server for GWL Realty’s LED screens.

Background

GWL Realty approached Creative Others to handle content and automation of their two LED screens located in Vancouver Centre I (Scotia Tower) and newly built Vancouver Centre II. Content includes live footage around Vancouver, made interactive through online submissions of real-time cams around the city.

My role was to allow the media server and footage to be automated while meeting Scotiabank’s high security protocols for a financial institution. As such, development of this project is limited to keep within the guidelines for loss prevention of AAA real estate.

Programming was on a tight, 1 month timeline, and required round-the-clock supervision of building security. This level of security was to protect cyber-security of high profile occupants of both towers, including Scotiabank and Deloitte. First, the previous media server was carefully removed. The replacement process required scrutiny as data on the original server had been collecting data and needed to be either deleted or sent to an offsite cloud service.

The remaining development focused on creating a remote desktop network that allowed for secure live-streaming, remote content / asset updates, and a automation application for controlling the on / off schedule of content playback (7am - 11pm).
